Earlier reports hinted at a possible sequel to the 2020 film “Mookuthi Amman,” starring Nayanthara. Confirming these speculations, Vels Film International, the production banner behind the original, has officially announced the sequel. Once again, Nayanthara will reprise her role as the titular goddess, with Ishari K Ganesh returning as producer.
“Mookuthi Amman” centers around Engels Ramasamy (played by RJ Balaji), a struggling reporter who joins forces with a local deity (Nayanthara) to expose the fraudulent practices of Bhagavathi Baba (Ajay Ghosh) within their community.
The original film, which premiered directly on Disney+ Hotstar in 2020, also featured Moulee, Urvashi, and Smruthi Venkat, alongside Indhuja Ravichandran and Yashika Aannand. While the return of the original supporting cast and RJ Balaji has been anticipated, their involvement in the sequel has yet to be officially confirmed. For now, Nayanthara is the sole confirmed cast member for “Mookuthi Amman 2.”
To herald the sequel’s announcement, the makers released an animated video showcasing Nayanthara adorned with the iconic trident, bangles, and nose ring that define her character. The sequel promises an epic battle against rising evil with the tagline, “When the evil rises, Amman strikes,” culminating in the declaration, “The divine battle begins soon.”
