Sudha Kongara’s much-anticipated project, Puranaanooru has seen a significant casting change with actor Sivakarthikeyan. Originally announced with Suriya, the film faced delays and was rumored to be shelved. However, recent reports confirm that Sivakarthikeyan has stepped in to take up the role, with an agreement already signed. The project will be produced by debutant Akash Krishnan, marking a significant move in Tamil cinema.

Sivakarthikeyan, who recently celebrated the birth of his third child, is gearing up for one of the biggest projects in Tamil cinema with Puranaanooru. This comes after the moderate success of his last film, Ayalaan and he hopes to make a strong comeback with this historical action drama.

Sivakarthikeyan is also working on Rajkumar Periyasamy’s biographical drama Amaran, based on the book India’s Most Fearless by Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh. Additionally, he is set to appear in a yet-to-be-titled film directed by A.R. Murugadoss, featuring Rukmini Vasanth and Biju Menon.

Sudha Kongara’s Vision for Puranaanooru

Sudha Kongara, known for her impactful films like  Irudhi Suttru and Soorarai Pottru, is set to bring her distinctive narrative style to Puranaanooru. The film is described as an anti-system narrative dealing with the sensitive issue of Hindi imposition, a theme in line with Kongara’s penchant for addressing anti-oppression topics in her work.

Despite the initial setback with Suriya stepping down, the revival of Puranaanooru with Sivakarthikeyan has generated significant buzz. Fans eagerly await the official announcement and further details about the film’s progress.

Production and Future Prospects

Puranaanooru will now be produced by a newcomer who was previously an assistant director to Vignesh Shivan. This fresh start brings new energy and anticipation for the project. An official announcement about the film is expected soon, which will likely provide more insights into the cast, crew, and production timeline.

With the film tackling substantial themes and featuring a talented cast and crew, Puranaanooru is poised to make a lasting impact upon its release.
