Maaedicare Charitable Foundation, a Kuala Lumpur-based NGO dedicated to kidney patients and heart diagnostics, celebrated a momentous 30 years of service last Friday.

The Health for Humanity Fundraiser Ball 2024 was more than just an elegant evening of cake and speeches, it was a testament to collective compassion and commitment. The event successfully raised an astounding RM500,000 through cash and in-kind donations.

These funds will significantly enhance Maaedicare’s mission, which includes expanding its kidney care programs across 11 dialysis centers, fortifying heart health initiatives through the Cardiac Diagnostic Centre, and improving health screenings at two Klinik Amal Percuma branches. Notably, the funds will also support plans to establish additional free clinics, extending essential healthcare to more underserved communities.

The evening was graced by Her Highness Dato’ Seri DiRaja Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz Binti Almarhum Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, Tunku Temenggong Kedah, who added prestige to the event. A silent auction was a highlight, generating vital resources to advance Maaedicare’s efforts against heart diseases and kidney ailments.

Established three decades ago, the Maaedicare Charitable Foundation has been pivotal in providing subsidized dialysis treatments through its 11 dialysis centres nationwide. Additionally, the Foundation operates a Cardiac Diagnostic Centre and offers free medical screenings via its two Klinik Amal Percuma branches, cumulatively serving nearly 32,000 patients.

Yang Mulia Tunku Dato’ Yaacob Khyra, Chairman of Maaedicare Charitable Foundation, expressed gratitude for the funds, noting they would enhance the Foundation’s medical facilities and improve care for its 800 dialysis patients.

“Maaedicare’s commitment to affordable dialysis has remained unwavering for 30 years. We started by offering treatments at a subsidized RM99 per session, compared to RM250 at private clinics. Today, our charge is RM110 per treatment, a modest increase reflecting effective cost management and bulk purchasing,” he said.

With support from the Malaysian government, patients now pay a net fee of RM10 to RM50 per session.Tunku Yaacob highlighted that these treatments have extended the lives of 24,000 patients over the years. “While many have since passed, the quality of life we provided and the fulfillment they experienced cannot be overstated.”

Ms. Anne Rajasaikaran, Chief Executive Officer of Maaedicare Charitable Foundation and Chairperson of the Health for Humanity Fundraiser Ball 2024, expressed pride in marking three decades of dedicated service. “We invite everyone to contribute towards building a healthier Malaysia. Whether through donations, volunteering, raising awareness, or participating in our fundraising events, your support makes a tangible difference,” she said.

Celebrities including actress Farah Dhiya,  producer Dato’ A. Aida, Iman Zulkarnain, YouTuber A. Syafiq Ahmad, Aiman Hakim, Ajeed Mavicii, and Akmal Azwar added flair to the evening, showcasing the event’s widespread appeal and community spirit.
