Goundamani never took interviews with the media or newspapers over his 40 years in film. However, he spent several hours chatting to journalists in person.
In 2015 , the hashtag #HappyBirthdayGoundamani trended on Twitter which was the first time in history, a name of a comedian trended in India widely.
Goundamani is the only Kollywood actor who had said that he will only act in Tamil movies.
His actual name is Subramaniyan Karuppaiya. However, due to his knack of drawing up humorous lines and daring responses on sets, he was named “Counter mani,”. Later that moniker gradually evolved to Goundamani.
