The ceremony drew a total of 2,878 graduates (first series). Only 12 graduates were physically present at the convocation ceremony, as per standard operating procedures to combat the risk of COVID-19.

Mogesh, a Bachelor of Science (Marine Biology) graduate, was honoured at the 18th UMT Convocation Ceremony, which was held at Sultan Mizan Hall in Kuala Terengganu.

Tan Sri Samsudin Osman, the Pro-Chancellor of UMT, presented the award.

Tan Sri Shamsul Azhar Abbas, Chairman of the University’s Board of Directors, and Prof. Datuk Dr Nor Aieni Mokhtar, Vice-Chancellor, were also present.

When Mogesh met with reporters, he expressed his gratitude for the award, saying that it encouraged him to continue fighting for environmental issues, including at the international level.

He also stated that the “Ocean Hope Project,” which he founded to promote the country, is the result of opportunities and space provided by UMT to be involved in co-curriculum, clubs, associations, and volunteer activities.

The 23-year-old also said;

I will continue to raise awareness, particularly on the issue of marine conservation, and will begin doctoral studies in molecular biology and genetic engineering at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in September.

Our heartfelt congratulations on your achievement, Mogesh Sababathy!
