Due to a disastrous, pandemic-induced economic fallout, families across the country are under great levels of financial strain. Hence, single mothers without a proper income are no exception.

Suganthi, 53, has been finding it very difficult to feed her family after being involved in an accident in 2014. Suganthi, who suffers from a slip disc, was unable to continue working as a security guard and opted to resign.

The middle aged mother has been plucking edible leaves off the roadside for the past two weeks to feed her ill daughter since she can’t afford essential items. Both mother and daughter live with a friend’s grandmother at an apartment. The pandemic has left her struggling to care for her daughter, S. Kyran, 33, as well.

According to Suganthi, her daughter who worked as a nurse met with an accident in 2011. Due to the accident, she was diagnosed with Anterograde amnesia, where the sufferer loses their ability to form memories after a period of time post accident. Besides that, she also suffers from a fractured hip and can’t stand or sit for long periods of time.

It is a pitiful sight for this mother and daughter duo. They have very little to no food at all while the cost of living is skyrocketing and made worse with the pandemic, where single mothers like Suganthi are really feeling the brunt and burden of caring for their families.

If you heart is moved by their story and would like to help them out in any way in order to ease their burden with rental and utility bills or even assist them with basic groceries, please contact Suganthi at 018-470 0389.

Your help can really go a long way for this family.
