Helping others just feels too good!

A fairy-godmother who infuses the society with love and support.

If the past year has taught us nothing else, it’s that sending love out into the world through selfless acts of kindness can have a positive ripple effect on people and communities.

Social activist Dr Meera Devarajoo has been conferred an honorary Doctorate in the field of Social Service by the Malaysia Bharath India Chamber of Commerce recently in recognition of her contributions to the community through social works.

Qualified as a Bharatanatyam (Indian Classical) teacher and a dedicated lecturer at University Tunku Abdul Rahman Kampar (UTAR), her social services to the community began at the age of 25. She started her classical dance class at Sai Mayuri dance, along with Aruna Raj Devarajoo at several towns within Perak (Kampar, Mambang Di Awan, Langkap, Bidor and Teluk Intan).

According to a Facebook user named Kanagambigai, who happens to be Meera’s sister has stated that the small act of kindness is to encourage and create an opportunity for more people to learn the art of traditional dance.

Check out the post below:

There are those who love to contribute for the sake of the community. The same goes for the kind soul who started it by giving free lessons to the children from lower-income families and for those who could afford to pay, as she charged a very minimal fee of RM35 per month. The reasonable price remains the same to date.

It doesn’t matter how big or small your act of kindness is, if it’s thoughtful and genuine, you’re doing it right.

Besides that, she effortlessly joined MAKNA (National Cancer Council) to raise awareness for cancer patients regardless of background, race, creed, colour, and station. She believes the art of giving has captured her soul, and we can see that it’s addictive, hence she continued doing so to date.

With her initiative and passion, Meera has been allocating her time to drop by SJK (T) Bukit Fraser Pahang, by donating some ‘Short Story’ collection of books to the students. Besides prioritising students’ education, she has stepped up to distribute free face masks to rural areas such as Kampung Limau Sahom, Kampung SMTD, and a few more to name in Perak.

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, she assisted a few families in her neighborhood with basic needs such as groceries to run through their daily life, which she considers part of her duty of care to her neighbours and community.

Your actions and stories are very inspiring, Meera, keep making a positive impact to those in need as your actions would certainly be of great help to them.
