Malaysia has once again been awarded with an honorable mention!

Scouting talent and nurturing them is not an easy task, especially when students have to represent the country at an international level.

However the trio, which is made up of Suthiksha Baloo, 12, her brother Narashimma Naidu Baloo, 10 from SK Taman Megah and Chelsea Janani James, 10, from Tanarata International School clinched two gold medals and a bronze medal in three back-to-back competitions for inventing ‘PS Herbal Fit’ by using a leaf which has long been regarded as having healing properties.

“One of the major components in the lotion is ‘Acalypha Indica,’ or Indian copperleaf, which is native to Asia and Africa. This leaf contains unique characteristics that can help with skin conditions such as psoriasis, wounds, and burns,” said Suthiksha.

In other words, many of our ancestors have used Acalypha Indica to treat skin problems.

The ‘PS Herbal’ team bagged a bronze medal in the 2021 World Youth Innovation Invention Award, which took place in Indonesia from August 18-20 and involved 450 teams from 35 nations.

Thereafter, on September 18th they earned a gold medal at the 2021 Covenant University and Organisation for Creativity, Innovation and Invention Promotion, Nigeria (CU-OCIIP) Expo.

And their second gold medal was awarded at the Indonesian Young Scientist Association (IYSA) and SEGI University and Colleges Malaysia sponsored the 2021 World Invention Competition and Exhibition (WICE) on September 23rd.

While it is a joyous moment for the team, blood, sweat and tears has been put into their ingenious invention at a tender young age — and the student’s coordinator-cum-science teacher, Jegathis Ravi Chandran — who relentlessly trained and prepared his young minds for the international competition.

He hoped they would continue to work collaboratively with each and every student in the future to create more innovations such as this. In addition to that, he has also stated that the students are in the midst of planning to get their product evaluated by the Ministry of Health (MoH) and acquire a patent to protect their intellectual property rights.

Those keen to know more about the invention by these talented students, do take some time and watch the full video below:
