As Covid-19 batters Malaysia’s economy, jobs losses loom and wage deduction amid the crisis have been a persistent challenge for all of us. Times are tough, our fellow brothers and sisters across the world are in the same fate as us all, some have it worse, far worse, at the same time remembering those in the entertainment and arts industry.

Malaysian Award-Winning magician Vikneswaran Allagu fondly known as daredevil Vikey, is notorious for his death-defying stunts, including emerging from buried coffins, but less risky conjuring tricks would have to be undertaken before limits on entertainment gatherings are imposed.

The 32-year-old recipient of the coveted Merlin Title, the highest foreign magic award, is a Durian lover himself, but claims that aside from eating them, he had no actual knowledge of the fruit god. He loads his bright orange pick-up with his full tuxedo and waistcoat and gets his regular durian demonstration on the road.

In conjunction with Deepavali, RHB advertisements has perfectly captured the spirit of Deepavali through Vikey’s story. We’ve got so many memory lane surprises for those who are hooked on the phone during this Deepavali in the form of some ads that have moved the hearts of thousands of Malaysians while catching the sparkly spirit of the festival at the same time.

Vikey is increasingly growing with his over the top outfits, which often include his magician tuxedo and the classic bow-tie. This time around, his hand glove does not pick a rabbit out of the hat, but intends to grab the King of Fruits by the thorn!

But armed with a wealth of experience, and not wanting to waste it, Vikey has decided to take a leap of faith by selling durians in the suburbs of KL. He had imitated the ‘Durian-On-Wheels’ form of selling this seasonal tropical treat instead of opening a stall by the road-side.

Other than that, he has received the coveted Merlin Award, the highest international magic prize, and fondly known for some of his most risky tricks, including a swift escape from a buried coffin and a water torture cage, with the Malaysia Book of Records in his possession.

Vikey is one of the icon to look up to during these challenging circumstances, from headlining international magic shows and smashing various records, which was also recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records on three different occasions, to now embracing the scene in his 4WD filled with the thorny King of Fruits.
