Prakash Raj Ventures Into Politics

Actor Prakash Raj has announced that he setting foot in politics by contesting in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Following in the footsteps of Kamal Hassan and Rajinikanth, Prakash Raj tweeted that he will contest as an independent candidate, promising to reveal more details of his entry soon. The actor is no stranger to politics, he has been a fierce critique of the Narendra Modi led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The actor is known for his hashtag, #justasking, which he ends his government critical tweets with. He claimed that the Hindi film fraternity had stopped offering him roles due to his frankness about the ruling party.

Prakash Raj has been very open about seeking justice for the assassination of journalist Gauri Lankesh, his close friend. She was murdered in cold blood in September 2017, after a court found her guilty of defaming a few prominent BJP members. The Indian Special Investigation Team later disclosed that Prakash Raj was also on the hit list of the assassins. When this was revealed in a Kannada news channel, Prakash Raj vowed to not be silenced and to make his voice stronger. His political entry looks like an extension of that.

Sources say that the actor will contest in Karnataka, his home state. The upcoming Indian parliamentary elections will be held in April or May this year.

We hope that this move does not end Prakash Raj’s acting career. He is too talented an actor to be lost to Indian politics.
