Tamil Nadu celebrated former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s 71st birth anniversary on the 24th of February, and another filmmaker has decided to hop on the biopic bandwagon to make a movie about her. This brings the total number of biopics made on the former actress to three. Jayalalithaa passed away on the 6th of December 2016 and the state still holds her in high esteem for the changes brought about while she was in office.

The Iron Lady

Director Priyadarshini’s first foray into the film industry will be with The Iron Lady. Actress Nithya Menen will be playing the former Chief Minister, and filming commenced on Jayalalithaa’s birthday, the 24th of February.

The Iron Lady is financed by Paper Tale Productions.

Thalaivi

Popular director AL Vijay, the visionary behind films like Madrasapattinam and Deiva Tirumagal, has recently announced his offering, Jayalalithaa’s biopic entitled Thalaivi. The cleverly made title poster that was released yesterday also features a sketch of the former Chief Minister in red.

Vijay has apparently spent 9 months researching the project, and has promised to reveal more details about the cast and crew of Thalaivi soon. So far, we know that GV Prakash will work on the film’s music and Nirav Shah will be handling the cinematography. The editing will be handled by Anthony and the stunts choreographed by popular stunt actor, Silva.

The production house has obtained a ‘no objection certificate’ from Jayalalithaa’s nephew Deepak.

Thaai: Puratchi Thalaivi

Y-star Cine and Television Private Ltd’s Adithya Bharadwaj announced that a biopic on the late Chief Minister would be directed by veteran director Barathiraja. The film’s title was revealed as Thaai: Puratchi Thalaivi.

The film was said to be shot in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi and was reportedly planned while Jayalalithaa was alive. This biopic will tell the story of Jayalalithaa’s journey from an actress to politician. No other information is available on the cast and crew at this point.
