It’s not just film directors who have embraced the smartphone path for capturing footage. It’s becoming common practice for both indie artists and big-name performers to use smartphones to produce their short films.

Helmed by Mallory Lee, vivo Malaysia has released a 9 minute and 30-second short film about a deaf Malaysian girl’s determination in fulfilling her dreams of becoming a national athlete, aptly titled Shout it Out. The film was shot using the Vivo X70 Pro, which is highlighted in the quality of the short film, and features their professional photography flagship smartphone.

Featuring Nurizyan Hishammuddin as the protagonist role of Siti along with Seelan Manoheran who plays the role of her coach. The phone-based camerawork puts the whole experience in a now familiar framing for everyone.

Inspired by a true story, ‘Shout it Out’ follows the story of Siti – a Malaysian who has been deaf since young. Against all odds, she masters karate and fights her way to represent Malaysia in an international karate tournament. Despite several hurdles, rejections, critics, and self-doubt, this heart-wrenching short film depicts her tremendous dedication and how her teacher’s unfailing support and advice propelled her to the international stage as a national athlete.

Thanks to Vivo, more and more are showing interest in the magic of filmmaking, and that’s obviously amazing by itself.
