The Tamil Language Society of the National University of Singapore, in collaboration with the Tamils Representative Council of Singapore Tamil Society and SINDA Youth Club, organized the Singapore Tamil Youth Conference 2024 on July 27th and 28th, 2024, at the NUS UTOWN Auditorium 2. During the conference, the youths shared and discussed their ideas and perspectives.
During the conference, the youths engaged in discussions centered around four key pillars: Arts & Culture, Digitech, Health, and Education. Each pillar represented a critical area of interest, exploring contemporary developments and their societal impacts.
Over 100 youths aged 16 to 25 participated in the conference, which was conducted in three rounds. The first two rounds occurred on July 27th and 28th, 2024, with the closing ceremony scheduled for August 3rd, 2024. Dr. Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of Digital Development and Information and the Ministry of Health, will attend the closing ceremony as a Special Guest. The top-performing groups from the earlier rounds will be selected to participate in the final round during the closing event.
“We conduct the conference in both English and Tamil to reach a wider audience and inspire more students. We hope this approach will foster a greater passion for the Tamil language among the attendees,” said Mahima.
Additionally, the organizers collaborated with Shabir Music Asia for the conference. The team created a special cover song titled ‘Va Thozha Va Tamizha’ for the event. The music video, featuring performances by Buvaneswaran Ganesan, Shabir Sulthan, Dinesh Ganesan, Ravikumar Samikshaa, Sakthieshwar Suresh Kannan, and Swathi Mahaganapathy, has been uploaded to the Shabir Music Asia YouTube channel. This adds a significant milestone to the conference.
The Singapore Tamil Youth Conference 2024 has proven to be a landmark event, bridging the gap between tradition and modernity through vibrant discussions and creative collaborations. As the conference moves towards its closing ceremony, the anticipation for the final round continues to build, promising a celebration of youthful innovation and cultural pride.
