In conjunction with the celebration of National Month, Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) has announced special discounts on outstanding traffic compounds and general offences. This limited-time offer is available from 1st August to 30th September in celebration of Merdeka and Malaysia Day.

Discounted Rates for Traffic Offences

Motorcyclists can settle their traffic compounds for a fixed rate of RM10, while drivers of cars, multipurpose vehicles (MPVs), and small lorries are required to pay RM20. For larger vehicles such as buses and lorries, the discounted rate is RM50. The discounts do not apply to blacklisted vehicles.

This initiative comes as a relief following DBKL’s recent hike in compound rates in July. Under the new rates, motorcyclists were previously required to pay RM30 if they settled their fines within 15 days, with the amount increasing to RM50 and RM80 for later payments. Car owners faced similar increments, starting at RM50 and going up to RM100, while heavy vehicle owners faced charges of up to RM300.

General Offences and Exclusions

In addition to traffic offences, DBKL is offering a special rate of RM100 for general offences. These include offences related to food stall operations and licences, but the discount does not extend to foreign nationals.

However, certain offences are excluded from these discounts. Offences under the Hotels (Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur) Act 2003, the Entertainment (Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur) Act 1992, and the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 are not eligible for the special rate. Additionally, offences involving workers’ permits, the Transportation of Material (WPKL) 1997, and the Wholesale Market (WPKL) 2002 by-laws are also excluded.

DBKL emphasized that the discounts are not applicable to blacklisted vehicles, and traffic offence notices issued under Section 53 of the Road Transport Act 1987, particularly for bus lane offences, are not eligible for the reduced rates.

Residents and vehicle owners are encouraged to take advantage of this offer by settling their outstanding compounds within the specified period. DBKL’s initiative is aimed at easing the financial burden on the public while encouraging compliance with traffic and municipal regulations.
