Two students from the University of Cyberjaya (UOC) have made their mark at the International Medical Device Exhibition and Conference 2026 (IMDEC 2026), showcasing their talent and innovation in the field of biomedical engineering.
Serivainavi A/P Lachimanan and Shanesha Wise Simon, students from UOC’s School of Biomedical Engineering (SBME), were among the students recognised at INNOMD 2026, Innovation Pitching, organised by the Medical Device Authority Malaysia (MDA) as part of IMDEC 2026.
Gold and Silver Recognition
Serivainavi A/P Lachimanan secured a Gold Award, with her project receiving recognition under the mentorship of Dr. Tuan Nurain, Lecturer at the School of Biomedical Engineering.
Meanwhile, Shanesha Wise Simon was awarded a Silver Award, with Ts. Dr. Tengku Ahmad Iskandar, Senior Lecturer at SBME, serving as the corresponding academic mentor.
Their achievements contributed to another strong showing by UOC students, with the university securing top honours at the innovation pitching platform for the second consecutive year. Another UOC student, Ridwan Dicko Mohamed, won the 1st Prize and Gold Award, while Fadhlin Jeslina binti Ismail also received a Gold Award.
The achievement highlights the growing role of biomedical engineering students in developing innovative ideas that can contribute to the healthcare and medical device industry.
Bridging Students with the Industry
Beyond competing, UOC’s School of Biomedical Engineering also served as a strategic partner for INNOMD 2026 and collaborated on MEDIC 2026 (Medtech Development International Conference).
The involvement provided students with opportunities to engage with industry professionals, gain exposure to the medical technology sector and showcase how biomedical engineering can contribute to healthcare innovation.
For Serivainavi and Shanesha, their recognition at IMDEC 2026 is a proud achievement that reflects the potential of young Malaysian talent in the growing field of medical technology.
