While Nayanthara is set to reprise her iconic role as the goddess Amman, a major change behind the scenes has been confirmed. According to recent reports, the sequel will be directed by Sundar C, the blockbuster filmmaker behind the successful Aranmanai 4, taking over from RJ Balaji, who co-directed the first part.
Sundar C Steps In
Sundar C, fresh off the success of his ₹100 crore hit Aranmanai 4, is currently working on an untitled project featuring comedy legend Vadivelu. Once this project wraps up, he is expected to shift his focus to Mookuthi Amman 2. The decision to bring Sundar C on board marks a significant shift in the creative direction of the sequel, and fans are eagerly awaiting what the director will bring to the table.
The original Mookuthi Amman, directed by RJ Balaji, was a fantasy-comedy that captured audiences with its unique blend of humor and spirituality. The film told the story of a news anchor who, along with his family, encounters a deity (Mookuthi Amman) in human form. The goddess helps him navigate the challenges in his life while exposing a fraudulent godman. Released directly on Disney+ Hotstar during Deepavali, the movie received praise for its entertaining storyline and Nayanthara’s powerful performance as the goddess.
