There’s an exciting developments for the fans of the 2020 hit film Mookuthi Amman. as the sequel is officially in works. While Nayanthara is set to reprise her iconic role as the goddess Amman, a major change behind the scenes has been confirmed. According to recent reports, the sequel will be directed by Sundar C, the blockbuster filmmaker behind the successful Aranmanai 4, taking over from RJ Balaji, who co-directed the first part.

Sundar C Steps In

Sundar C, fresh off the success of his ₹100 crore hit Aranmanai 4, is currently working on an untitled project featuring comedy legend Vadivelu. Once this project wraps up, he is expected to shift his focus to Mookuthi Amman 2. The decision to bring Sundar C on board marks a significant shift in the creative direction of the sequel, and fans are eagerly awaiting what the director will bring to the table.

The original Mookuthi Amman, directed by RJ Balaji, was a fantasy-comedy that captured audiences with its unique blend of humor and spirituality. The film told the story of a news anchor who, along with his family, encounters a deity (Mookuthi Amman) in human form. The goddess helps him navigate the challenges in his life while exposing a fraudulent godman. Released directly on Disney+ Hotstar during Deepavali, the movie received praise for its entertaining storyline and Nayanthara’s powerful performance as the goddess.

With Sundar C now at the helm, the sequel is expected to build on the original’s success, potentially bringing a fresh perspective and a new layer of depth to the story. Although the plot details of Mookuthi Amman 2 are still under wraps, anticipation is building as the promo shoot work is reportedly already underway. An official announcement, along with a promo is expected to be released soon

RJ Balaji’s New Venture

While RJ Balaji steps away from the director’s chair for Mookuthi Amman 2, he is not leaving the genre entirely. The filmmaker is said to be working on another film titled “Maasani Amman“, starring Trisha, under a different production house. This move hints at his continued interest in exploring devotional themes.
