Seven-year-old Aayushi Yeogeswaran from Taman Sentosa has made history as the youngest author in Malaysia to be recognized by the Malaysia Book of Records for her debut children’s book, ‘Unicorn and Little Amanda’. The Malaysia Book of Records bestowed this prestigious honor upon her during a grand book launch event at Perpustakaan Raja Tun Uda in Shah Alam.
Aayushi Yeogeswaran’s talent for storytelling is truly exceptional for someone her age. Her vivid imagination and creativity shine through in her debut children’s book, Unicorn and Little Amanda. Aayushi’s journey as a young author stems from her deep love for reading, a passion that started early in her life. Her mother, Devagi Chandirase, remembers having to hide flashcards before Aayushi was even six months old because her curiosity and eagerness to read and learn were boundless.
“By the age of three, she was already reading on her own, and by six, she had read over 1,600 books,” Devagi shared. At just six years old, Aayushi wrote her first story, a work of pure imagination that would soon resonate with many readers.
“Reading is a source of inspiration for me. I love reading and want to encourage everyone to read more books. I plan to sell my book for RM1 so that it is affordable for everyone, encouraging them to read more,” Aayushi said.
The first edition of ‘Unicorn and Little Amanda’ was published as an e-book on Amazon last year. This year, Aayushi’s mother took the next step by turning her daughter’s work into a physical book. It is now available in print through Sunshine Tales Publishing on Lazada for RM25.
As a gesture of gratitude, Aayushi’s parents donated *Unicorn and Little Amanda* to the Raja Tun Uda Library, a place that has been a haven for her love of reading. The library has provided her with countless books that have fueled her passion and curiosity. Her mother fondly recalls their weekly trips to the library, where they would borrow up to 60 books at a time. In addition to their library visits, they would make monthly trips to BookXcess, often purchasing around 1,000 books annually. This dedication to nurturing Aayushi’s love for reading has played a significant role in her development as a young author, allowing her imagination to flourish and inspiring her to create stories of her own.
Aayushi’s accomplishments extend beyond her first book; she has written three more books that are soon to be published. Her upcoming work, titled Save the Earth, is inspired by her deep concern for environmental issues. Through this book, she aims to educate children about the significance of recycling and the impact they can have on the planet. Her dedication to spreading awareness through storytelling reflects her commitment to making a positive difference in the world, even at such a young age.
The grand book launch and presentation of the Malaysia Book of Records certificate were officiated by Sentosa assemblyman Dr. G. Gunaraj, who commended Aayushi’s achievement as a source of inspiration for other young Malaysians.
“Aayushi has established a new benchmark for young children. At only 8 years old, she has accomplished something truly extraordinary, proving that age is no obstacle to greatness. Her commitment to reading and writing is a shining example for all young Malaysians to emulate,” he remarked.
Aayushi Yeogeswaran’s remarkable achievements at such a young age serve as a powerful testament to the boundless potential of young minds. Her journey from an avid reader to an acclaimed author is both inspiring and commendable, reflecting her profound dedication to literature and her commitment to making a difference through her writing. Her story underscores the importance of nurturing young talents and reminds us that greatness can indeed begin early in life.
