Malaysian Indian Community Transformation Unit (MITRA), has introduced seven new initiatives worth RM59.76 million to strengthen the socio economic development, education and community well-being of the Malaysian Indian community.
The initiatives announced by Human Resources Minister Dato’ Sri Ramanan Ramakrishnan during the Uyarvu MADANI Series 2 Grant Handover Ceremony 2026. The initiatives are aimed particularly at supporting B40 and M40 communities through assistance in entrepreneurship, higher education digital access, Tamil education and community development.
Supporting Indian Entrepreneurs
Under the enhanced Uyaru MADANI 2.0, an additional RM25 million has been allocated, bringing the programme’s total allocation to RM50 million. The programme aims to support 1,400 B40 and M40 micro, small and medium enterprises (PMKS) across various business sectors.
Applications for Uyarvu MADANI 2.0 will be open from September 14 to October 13, 2026.
Digital And Financial Support For Students
For higher education students, MITRA has allocated RM13.25 million under the Peranti MADANI programme to provide high-performance digital devices to 5,000 first-year B40 and M40 university students. At the same time, the Bantuan Khas Siswa MADANI programme, worth RM10 million, will provide RM2,000 in financial assistance to 5,000 B40 students to help ease the financial burden of preparing for higher education.
Applications for both Peranti MADANI & Bantuan Khas Siswa MADANI programme will be open from September 14 to October 31, 2026.
Strengthening Tamil Education
MITRA is also continuing its efforts to improve digital learning in Tamil schools through the ICT Equipment (Smart Board) Initiative for SJKT 2026, with an allocation of RM5.36 million. The initiative will provide 400 Smart Boards to 358 SJKT schools nationwide, helping schools strengthen their modern teaching and learning facilities.
In addition, RM900,680 has been allocated through collaboration with the Ministry of Education (KPM) for the Tamil Language Empowerment Programme for SPM and STPM, which is expected to benefit 8,690 students.
Supporting Community And Social Development
The Harmoni MADANI Programme, worth RM5 million, will provide RM20,000 each to eligible Indian Gurdwaras and churches, with a maximum target of 250 houses of worship. The funding is intended to help these institutions serve as spaces for learning and community-based social activities.
Applications for Harmoni MADANI will be open from September 14 to October 13, 2026.
Meanwhile, a RM250,000 Crime Prevention Programme, carried out in collaboration with the Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF), will focus on developing discipline and resilience among 700 SJKT pupils in Melaka.
Overall, the seven initiatives reflect the government’s continued efforts to address gaps in education, digital access, entrepreneurship and community development among the Malaysian Indian community.
Through collaboration with agencies including KPM and MCPF, KESUMA and MITRA said the programmes will be implemented with strict governance and transparent screening to ensure assistance reaches the intended beneficiaries and creates a meaningful impact at the grassroots level.
