The search and rescue (SAR) operation for the female Indian national, Vijayaletchumy who tragically fell into a sinkhole on Jalan Masjid India has now extended into its fourth day. On Friday morning, the Indian tourist, identified as Vijayaletchumy, 48, vanished after falling into an eight-meter-deep hole. She was on her way to a nearby temple for breakfast when the ground unexpectedly gave way beneath her.

Rescue teams, determined to locate the missing woman, have intensified their efforts, employing various techniques to overcome the challenges posed by the complex underground environment. Today, they have begun utilizing the ‘flushing’ technique at a nearby manhole.

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) reported that the flushing technique has been carried out in phases since yesterday evening.

“Despite conducting two rounds of flushing, the victim has yet to be found. Last night, Indah Water Konsortium began flushing at the fifth manhole, continuing until 2 am on August 26. The search and rescue team will resume their efforts this morning,” the statement said.

The six manholes are situated in the following locations: in front of Wisma Yakin on Jalan Melayu, at the Jalan Melayu intersection, in Dataran Merdeka, near Bank Pertanian on Lebuh Pasar, and at Bulatan Kinabalu.

Bernama’s investigation revealed that the victim’s son, Surya, 26, was at the search site around 9 am to monitor the progress of the search and rescue operation. Most businesses in the area remained closed, with only a few traders beginning their operations by 9 am. Media personnel were also on-site as early as 8 am to cover the latest updates on the ongoing operation.

Despite the challenges and the extensive measures taken, including the latest ‘flushing’ technique, the search has yet to yield results. With the rescue efforts continuing and the community rallying behind the cause, there is optimism that a positive outcome will soon be achieved, bringing much-needed relief and closure to this challenging situation.
