Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo announced that a company from India is preparing to invest US$1 billion to create Malaysia’s first artificial intelligence (AI) park and AI movie studio. According to the information provided, the Immerso AI park will feature both an AI university and an AI data center, he stated in a recent announcement.
He also noted, “This initiative will foster global partnerships to support startups. The AI movie studio and film city hub will elevate talent development in transmedia and digital production within Malaysia. Additionally, these projects will explore opportunities to integrate Malaysian content into both existing and new intellectual properties (IPs) of the companies.”
Accordng to him, a memorandum of understanding between the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation and India’s IT services trade body, Nasscom, will enable the training of Malaysians in essential areas of the digital sector.
The visit to New Delhi has unlocked exciting new prospects, and the upcoming investment is expected to bolster Malaysia’s rapidly growing digital economy. He also noted that Malaysia’s digital sector attracted approximately RM1.6 billion in investment last year.
Gobind accompanied Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on a three-day visit to India last week. During the visit, Malaysia and India agreed to form a joint digital council. The recent developments signify a pivotal moment for Malaysia’s digital landscape. The substantial investment from Immerso AI-IP will not only position Malaysia as a leader in artificial intelligence and digital production but also create thousands of new job opportunities. The establishment of a joint digital council with India and the MoUs signed promise to strengthen collaboration, enhance digital skills, and integrate Malaysian content into global platforms.
