Hashmitha Selvam and Sheezay, two multifaceted artists, recently released their highly anticipated collaboration single, Pothum. This marked the first collaboration between the two artists, who combined their unique talents and musical influences to create an unforgettable track.
Hashmitha Selvam’s passion and dedication to her craft are clearly reflected in her remarkable talent and unwavering commitment. She has released three singles to date, with a fourth on the way. Her debut single, ‘Indru Vaazhnthidalaam’, which promotes peace and love, came out in 2012. With her powerful and unique voice, she earned recognition in the Malaysia Book of Records in 2016 as the youngest Indian vocalist to win Best Vocal Performance in a Song at the AIM Malaysian Indian Awards.
Meanwhile, Shevan Raj, popularly known by his stage name Sheezay, is a prominent figure in Tamil hip-hop. As a Malaysian rapper, record producer, singer, and songwriter, Sheezay gained widespread recognition in 2012 with the release of his debut studio album, ‘Kambathu Rapper’, which quickly climbed the charts. Currently, he is pursuing an independent path with his latest venture, ‘Projekt-101. Hashmitha and Sheezay have teamed up for the ‘Pothum’ music video.
The pop ballad captures the emotional struggle of letting go and saying farewell to a toxic romantic relationship. Its blend of Tamil and English lyrics, along with the musical arrangement, deeply resonates with listeners, evoking a sense of melancholy and intense emotions. ‘Pothum’ is composed by Sheezay and Lingges, with Sheezay also writing the lyrics. Dev G handled the music production, arrangement, mixing, and mastering, while Ephraim Nelson directed and edited the music video.
‘Pothum’ aims to reach not only to the local Indian market but also to the international Indian audience. This project represents a significant collaboration between Sony Music Malaysia and XENO Music. It is also the first Tamil project produced by XENO Music and Sony Music Entertainment. Both Sony and XENO are committed to supporting local talent, and this music video marks a notable milestone in the Malaysian Tamil entertainment industry.
