Sai Abhyankkar, known for his work in ‘Katchi Sera’ and ‘Aasa Kooda’, is set to make his debut as a music director in the film ‘Benz’. The movie, part of the LCU series, stars Raghava Lawrence and is directed by Bakkiyaraj Kannan.
Sai Abhyankkar shared how he got this opportunity, saying, “Santhosh Kumar, the head of Think Music, along with Magesh Rajendran from Think, approached me about an exciting script they wanted me to hear. I love seeing how a script evolves into a full film with all its rich background score and songs.”
He continued, “I later met director Bakkiyaraj Kannan at the Passion Studios office. Interestingly, I was already familiar with ‘Benz’ before meeting Bakkiyaraj sir—I’m a huge fan of his filmography. I had seen its first-look poster about a year ago and even wondered who would be composing its music, as it seemed like a major project back then too. By God’s grace, it turned out to be me.”
The LCU has gained a reputation for its music, largely due to collaborations with composers like Sam CS and Anirudh. Reflecting on his debut within this universe, Sai shares, “It feels unique to join the LCU; only two composers have contributed to it so far.”
It is my wish to bring #Benz to the screen and this is catching its own wish at 11:11 🤞🏻
I am very happy to be associating with our beloved @offl_Lawrence sir, thank you so much for trusting our team. And Director @bakkiyaraj_k , I am excited for you.

Sai initially didn’t realize that ‘Benz’ would be part of the LCU. He explains that when the story was first presented to him, there was no mention of the LCU connection. “As I listened to the script, they suddenly hinted at its link to the universe,” he recalls. He describes the film as having a dark, commercial vibe infused with humor and the signature LCU elements. Sai notes that they’re aiming for an international musical style to enhance the project.
When asked if the LCU tag adds any pressure, Sai responds, “I don’t feel any pressure. I’m aware that the scores for previous LCU films have been huge hits, but my focus is on keeping my approach to this film authentic. I want to bring a fresh sound to this universe.”
Sai’s parents, renowned playback singers Tippu and Harini, introduced him to quality music at a young age and have supported him throughout his musical journey, something he’s deeply grateful for. “I began listening to artists like Rashid Ali, Ghulam Ali Khan, and Amir Khan when I was just four or five, which influenced my path even before I started vocal training under Sriram Parthasarathy. Later, I learned to play tabla, mridangam, drums, guitar, and piano. Although I primarily play the piano, I studied each of these instruments to support my production ideas.”
