Yesterday evening, hundreds of people gathered to pay their respects at the wake of Malaysian billionaire T. Ananda Krishnan, held at his family residence on Jalan Berhala, Brickfields. The line began forming as early as 4.30pm, with around 200 individuals waiting at any given moment outside the venue.
The wake was a closely managed event, with strict restrictions preventing media access or photography within the premises. Notable attendees included People’s Progressive Party president J. Loga Bala Mohan, who was seen entering the venue.
The family had earlier requested that the wake remain a low-key event, asking attendees not to send wreaths, flowers, or garlands.
Businessman Praveen Maniam, 41, was among those who queued to pay their final respects.
“As an ordinary Indian citizen, I found him inspiring as the first Indian billionaire in this country. There’s no denying that he was one of the greatest contributors to this nation’s progress. I’m here to honor him as both an Indian and a Malaysian,” Praveen told FMT.
Another attendee, former Astro employee Vignesh Nambiar, 43, praised Ananda as a visionary leader and commended his contributions to the nation’s telecommunications and satellite industries.
“He placed Malaysia on the global stage,” Vignesh said. “His foresight in technology, bringing the world closer to Malaysia, was truly inspiring to me in my younger days. He could have achieved this success elsewhere, but he chose to do it for Malaysia.”
Amar G. Krish Kumar Abdullah, 60, a former resident of Brickfields now living in Batu Caves, attended the wake to pay tribute to a well-respected figure from the area. Amar described Ananda Krishnan as a remarkably generous individual who made significant contributions to charity and education. Although he did not directly benefit from Ananda’s efforts, he observed the positive impact they had on others.
This gathering of people from all walks of life to pay their respects to T. Ananda Krishnan is a reflection to his immense generosity and the profound impact he had on the nation. His life stands as a towering example of visionary leadership, selfless contributions to society, and unwavering dedication to Malaysia’s progress. Ananda Krishnan will be remembered not only as a successful billionaire but as a cherished figure whose legacy continues to inspire countless individuals.
