It is rare to witness the emergence of a young genius in our lifetime. However, Malaysia is now home to a prodigious talent: 19-year-old M. Laxmann, who has proven his extraordinary abilities at a remarkably young age.

Recently, Laxmann received the prestigious “Top in the World” award for achieving a perfect 100% in Mathematics in the A-Level examination.

Mathematics—a subject that many students liken to a battlefield—was where he truly excelled.

This remarkable recognition was awarded by the Cambridge Assessment International Education Board on November 28.

This date held even greater significance for Laxmann, as it coincided with his parents’ 20th wedding anniversary, making the occasion all the more special.

The title ‘Top in the World’ is no exaggeration—it signifies that Laxmann outperformed every other Mathematics student globally.

But Laxmann’s excellence didn’t stop at Mathematics. He also achieved outstanding scores in other challenging subjects, including Chemistry (97%) and Physics (93%).

His achievement was proudly shared by Aznan Tamin, the head of the State Education and Information Committee, on his Facebook page

“Alhamdulillah, I am truly delighted and honored to share the incredible success of the Johor Youth Scholarship recipient, Laxmann A/L Muralitharan, who has been awarded the World’s Best Achievement Award in the Cambridge A-Level examination,” he said.

Laxmann is one of the recipients of the Orang Muda Johor Scholarship, a program launched in 2023 to nurture young talent in Johor.

In 2022, he earned straight 12A+ grades in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), placing him among the top achievers in the nation.

A former student of Maktab Sultan Abu Bakar, Laxmann is currently pursuing his tertiary education at Kolej Yayasan UEM and aims to study Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London, one of the world’s leading universities.

He is joined in his academic excellence by two other scholars, Muhammad Fauzi Syahmi and Lee Chong Ming, who also recorded stellar performances in the A-Level examinations.

The Johor Youth Scholarship program underscores the state government’s commitment to nurturing world-class talent and fostering global competitiveness among Johor’s youth.

These remarkable achievements align with the Maju Johor 2030 vision, inspiring students across the state to follow in the footsteps of these outstanding individuals.

The three scholars recently shared their aspirations with Johor Menteri Besar, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, during a special visit to his official residence in Saujana.

Genius minds found!
