In an interview with Behindwoods, actress Nithya Menen revealed that her heart has never been in her acting career, as she always aspired to live a simple life and become a pilot. The Thiruchitrambalam star shared that she had even considered quietly stepping away from the film industry before winning the prestigious National Award for her performance in the film alongside Dhanush.
The actress spoke to the media outlet in anticipation of her upcoming film Kadhalikka Neramillai, where she stars alongside Jayam Ravi and TJ Bhanu in the lead roles. Directed by Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi, the film is set to release in theaters on the festive occasion of Pongal, January 14.

Nithya Menen shared her thoughts, saying, “Acting was never a profession I pursued out of passion. In fact, it was only after stepping into the film industry that I began to believe in God. My father is agnostic, and I was raised the same way. However, entering this field made me realize that a powerful force beyond my control was guiding me. This is not a career I enjoy, and if given a choice, I would walk away from it.”
Explaining her desire for a simple life, she remarked, “I know it may sound ungrateful, but this profession doesn’t align with my personality. I always dreamed of living a normal life. I wanted to be a pilot because I love traveling. I enjoy the freedom of walking to the park and living without constraints. But being an actor means sacrificing all of that. At times, I wonder if everything I’ve given up is truly worth it.”
She also shared that her parents had always been supportive and never interfered with her choices. Speaking about her intention to leave the film industry, she explained, “Before winning the National Award, I had made up my mind to finish my pending projects and quietly step away from acting. I planned to disappear without anyone knowing where I was or what I was doing. But then, I received the National Award. That felt like God’s way of convincing me to stay.”

Nithya Menen earned her first National Award in 2024 at the 70th National Film Awards for her portrayal of Shobana in Dhanush’s 2022 hit Thiruchitrambalam. She is set to reunite with Dhanush for his fourth directorial venture, Idli Kadai, which features an ensemble cast including Samuthirakani and Rajkiran. Additionally, she will be seen in Dear Exes, a romantic drama helmed by director Kamini.
