In a bright celebration of Malaysian heritage and brilliance, Mrs Malaysia World 2024, Dr. Shalini Devi Ramachandran, is set to charm the global audiences at the prestigious Mrs World 2024 pageant in Las Vegas later this month. She will be wearing a breathtaking national costume, ‘Puteri Membara Malaysia,’ which features an extraordinary 121.3-metre-long trail, earning its place in the Malaysian Book of Records as the longest national costume ever created.
The costume was unveiled in a grand ceremony held at Wyndham Hotel Klang on 11th January 2025 , where it was renowned as a true masterpiece of art and culture. Datin Harveen Kaur, National Director of Mrs Malaysia World Sdn Bhd, praised this groundbreaking achievement and shared Dr Shalini’s journey in her speech given yesterday.
‘Puteri Membara Malaysia’ is more than just a national costume, it’s a meaningful representation of Malaysia’s diverse heritage and determined spirit of its women. The design incorporates intricate batik and songket motifs, seamlessly blending traditional Malaysian art with modern aesthetics. The choice of colors, a striking combination of red and black, carrying a deep symbolism.
The red represents unity, love and determination, reflecting the strong bonds among Malaysians. Meanwhile, the black signifies sophistication, power and grace, qualities that epitomize the Malaysian woman. The dazzling costume was designed by Saran Anak Lagong from Sarawak, embodies Malaysia’s cultural pride and its bold, progressive identity on the global stage.
The design also celebrates our country’s rich traditions while showcasing the innovation and creativity. The record breaking design is a testament to the designer’s ability to push boundaries while sticking to the essence of our nation’s heritage.
At the heart of this moment is Dr. Shalini Devi Ramachandran, a Selangor born medical doctor and a creator in her own right. Beyond her career in medicine, she manages a clinic with her husband Dr Yuveneswara Murti. Founder of Dr Y Dr S Wellness, with 43 studios all over Malaysia and Singapore. Dr Shalini is also an advocate for sustainability in fashion, earning her the title of a sustainability fashion queen.
Dr. Shalini’s journey reflects the values embodied by the costume she will be wearing. Her commitment to excellence, resilience, and a deep sense of cultural pride mirrors the message of ‘Puteri Membara Malaysia.’
She shared her excitement and her journey at the event, emphasizing the significance of carrying Malaysia’s culture and spirit onto an international platform,
“ A childhood obese like me could never imagine, I am a morbid obese of 124kg, a type two diabetic who suffered from more than 20 years, was on chronic medications and I am such a introvert person that stage is definitely my fear but today I have evolved to become this women who have mold by many people especially two womens”, says Dr Shalini as she thanks her mother and Datin Harveen Kaur for being a huge support of her journey.

The Mrs World 2024 pageant, scheduled for January 29 and 30, will provide Dr. Shalini the opportunity to present Malaysia’s heritage to a global audience.
