Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah rebounded from their disappointment at the Malaysia Open by securing their first win of the season, advancing to the second round of the India Open yesterday.

The World No. 7 women’s doubles duo triumphed over India’s Mrunmayee Deshpande and Prerana Alvekar with a commanding 21-8, 21-19 victory, wrapping up the match in just 26 minutes at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in New Delhi.

The victory was a crucial boost for Pearly and Thinaah after their disappointing first-round exit at last week’s season-opening Malaysia Open, where they fell to Indonesia’s Lanny Tria Mayasari and Siti Fadia Ramadhanti. Their next challenge awaits on Thursday, when they face China’s Jia Yi Fan and Zhang Shu Xian, the runners-up of the Malaysia Open.

Meanwhile, national men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik progressed to the second round of the India Open 2025 after a hard-fought 56-minute clash earlier this morning against Thailand’s unseeded duo, Peeratchai Sukphun and Pakkapon Teeraratsakul.

In their Round of 32 encounter at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, Aaron Chia and Wooi Yik narrowly lost the first game 20-22 but staged an impressive comeback to take the next two games 21-16 and 21-18 against the world’s 31st-ranked team.

The Malaysian duo will take on China’s Xie Hao Nan and Zheng Wei Han, ranked 39th in the world, in the second round later today. Aaron Chia and Wooi Yik previously suffered a defeat against the Chinese pair at the 2024 Badminton Asia Team Championships.
