Our country’s hope for the India’s Open badminton championships were crushed as both women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan and Thinaah and mixed doubles duo Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai Jemie faced heartbreaking semi finals defeats.

Pearly and Thinaah, the duo that’s ranked world No.7 battled against South Korea’s Kim Hye Jeong and Kong Hee Yong at Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, New Delhi. As the duo played strong they struggled with consistency and unforced errors, losing 18-21, 18-21 in a match lasting 53 minutes.

“We were too rushed to kill the shots and didn’t enjoy the process. This is a mistake we keep making repeatedly,” said Pearly.

However Pearly and Thinaah will be bringing back a price of USD 13,300 (approximately RM59,000) for reaching semi finals

In the mixed doubles, husband and wife pair Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai Jemie delivered a fair fight against China’s world no.2 pair Jiang Zhen Bang and Wei Ya Xin. Even after winning 21-18, the duo was unable to maintain the momentum, in a 50 minute battle it was 21-19, 9-21. Marking it as the fifth loss for the duo. Their efforts for reaching semi-finals earned them the same as Pearly and Thinaah USD 13,300 (RM59,000).

To all of the Malaysian players, India Open semi final finish was a testament of the dedication they each have. With all the challenges they faced on the international stage, we are proud of our Malaysian stars for pushing their limits. Both of the pairs remain hopeful to achieve greater milestones in the next games.
