Director Gautham Vasudev Menon, popularly known as GVM, is a renowned filmmaker in Kollywood, celebrated for delivering multiple blockbusters. However, his recent directorial ventures have not performed well and have faced delays in release.
Renowned for his candid nature, both regarding his films and professional disagreements, the acclaimed filmmaker recently drew attention by openly disowning one of his well-known films, Enai Noki Paayum Thota (2019), starring Dhanush and Megha Akash.

In an interview with Hollywood Reporter India, Gautham shared his regret over making the film and mentioned that he has often joked about distancing himself from it. While he emphasized that he is not avoiding his responsibilities as the director, he made it clear that he no longer wishes to “own” the movie.
Gautham Vasudev Menon stated, “The only film I regret making is Enai Noki Paayum Thota. I’ve joked about it often—not to shirk my responsibilities as its director, but as a way of not claiming ownership of the film. Beyond that, I have no regrets.”
His remarks have reignited discussions about the movie, which was plagued by a troubled production process and significant delays. Reports indicate that during filming, Gautham had a fallout with Dhanush, and the two remain estranged to this day. Adding fuel to the controversy, industry whispers suggest that Dhanush had to step in and unofficially direct portions of the film to ensure its completion.
This isn’t the first instance of Gautham Menon distancing himself from Enai Noki Paayum Thota. In a previous interview with Galatta Plus, he dismissed the film entirely when it was brought up, even correcting the host who listed it as one of his works.
Although the film was eventually released, its mixed reception and the controversies surrounding its production have continued to overshadow its success. Gautham’s candid remarks further highlight his complicated relationship with the project, shedding light on the challenges filmmakers face when things don’t unfold as intended.
