As Thaipusam is just two weeks away, Batu Caves was busy with an overwhelming crowd yesterday. The tourists from other countries were the main visitors to the temple. Taking advantage of the Chinese New Year public holiday, both our local Malaysians and tourists gathered at Batu Caves, adding to the vibrant atmosphere.
Despite the huge crowd, devotees remained focused on their rituals in preparing for Thaipusam. Many have already started carrying Paal Kudam (Milk Pots) as an offering from the Vinayagar Temple downstairs. Although the crowd was packed with mostly tourists, devotees managed to fulfil their prayers.
Visitors who were present at the temple said the crowd was still normal and fine in the morning but as time went by it kept getting busier. Members of the local community expressed their happiness at seeing the crowd as many tourists took the interest in our culture. They believe that the visitors visiting during the festive season will provide a meaningful opportunity for them to learn about our Indian culture.

“We didn’t expect such a huge crowd, but it’s nice to see people from different races experiencing our culture’, said a devotee.
Two tourists were extremely happy on their visit and have said the culture over here is much different then their countries culture, the food, clothes and rituals.
With Thaipusam just two weeks away, Batu Caves is set to witness an even larger group as many devotees prepare for the big day. As of now, people have already started their prayers and it is expected to have more devotees starting from next week.
