After decades of redefining Malaysia’s music landscape with his persona and soundtracks, Sambarock, Darkkey Nagaraja is finally getting the cinematic tribute he truly deserves. “Aku Darkkey”, the upcoming documentary film will take the audience deep into the life, and legacy of the man who brought an entire generation together with his music, and electric energy.

The project is a collaboration between Good Bad Ugly (GBU) team and Aku Darkkey team, directed by Vicram Lachumamam and produced by Poketplay Films. WIth three years of work, the productions are now in it’s final stages, gearing up for a full swing post production work in Chennai, India. A nationwide theatrical release is already in the plans of the production house, promising to be a landmark moment for the fans.

But Aku Darkkey isn’t just another documentary, it’s a movement. It will not just capture the music but the man behind the mic. From early beginnings to becoming a home name and an icon among Malaysians, the film is poised to highlight Darkkey’s music, identity and Sambarock genre itself.

As the documentary inches closer to completion, Darkkey’s presence is being felt strongly in the cinematic world once again, this time through a high-profile collaboration with Ajith Kumar. In “Good Bad Ugly, set to release on 10th April, fans were thrilled to see the fiery glimpse of Darkkey in the trailer, alongside with his iconic “Puli” track from the Arakana album.

This comes after his contribution in Rajinikanth’s Kabali, where he was seen in the song “Ulagam Oruvanukka”. But in this feature, he is seen both visually and musically, marking another level of recognition for a homegrown legend.

With Aku Darkkey and Good Bad Ugly arriving soon in big screen, it feels like a perfect storm for the fans, as it brings back to the Darkkey era. For fans old and new, both of these projects are set to be a powerful comeback, but this time it’s not just a performance but a legacy celebrated. Announcements on Aku Darkkey will be revealed soon by Poketplay films.
