Dr. Shalini Devi Ramachandran, the founder of Dr.Y Dr.S Wellness has always been a woman of great determination. The story behind the wellness was inspired by her own personal health journey. She fully understood the depth of strength and resilience that lay within her. Her journey from studying medicine to helping others to become a beacon of wellness for women everywhere is nothing short but inspiring.

At first glance, Dr Shalini appears to be a practitioner at her own clinic ‘Aranda Clinic’, and a loving marriage of eight years. But behind her confident presence lies a story of transformation and struggle. Diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes at the age of 14, struggling with childhood obesity, and weighing 124kg. Dr Shalini did not start with fitness in the beginning as she is today.

“I was on tons of medication, I had PCOS, and there was no real situation. Everyone around me just said ‘lose weight, do some exercise, it’s very challenging to do because I did not have the knowledge back then”, she shares.

Driven by personal deep desire to reclaim her own health, she pursued additional studies in nutrition, dermatology and lifestyle medicine. The knowledge didn’t just change her life, it became a landmark for the creation of Dr. Y Dr S Wellness, a movement more than just a fitness studio.

What began as a personal mission soon transformed into a nutrition phenomenon.

“I never thought it would inspire so many people,” says Dr Shalini.

Today Dr. Y Dr.S Wellness has 44 studios across Malaysia, 3 in Singapore and is now in plans to expand to Australia.

A Journey of Sustainability

Dr. Shalini’s approach does not include unsustainable programs.

“I was part of the yo-yo cycle for years too, zero rice, fruit-only diets, protein shakes. I am not against it but it’s hard to sustain it”.

Her breakthrough, consistent progress, losing 1-1.5kg a week in a way that felt sustainable. Her total weight loss was 64kg. It’s been 15 years of zero medication, and illness free.

“At Dr. Y Dr. S, it’s about giving people a second chance, helping them rebuild respect for their body and reclaim their freedom”.
A Safe Space for All

Dr. Y Dr.S Wellness isn’t your typical fitness studio. It’s a community, more like a family. And for many women, single mothers, it’s a lifeline.

“We welcome mothers, teenagers, even people with disabilities. There’s no judgement. One of the most touching things I witnessed. There’s a person I posted a video about. She has muscular dystrophy, so she lies down and it is difficult for her to stand back up. Before I could help her, five other mothers rushed to help her stand. That’s the spirit here, motherhood, solidarity and support”.

The pace is mother-friendly too, children under 12 don’t pay. They can sit in a designated room, color and do their homework, so moms don’t have to worry about childcare. As said, Dr Shalini has done her diploma in dermatology and sport nutrition. Being the face of Dr. Y Dr.S people come to her with trust, knowing that she has the knowledge on health and she would be the right person to come too.

Breaking Stereotypes, One Crown at a Time

Dr. Shalini isn’t just a doctor and wellness coach, she’s also Mrs.Malaysia World and an international pageant winner, where she wore 121.3 metre long trail dress and won two awards including Mrs. World Ambassador and Best Costume.

“To me, beauty is inside out. And if someone can work with everyone, support everyone, that’s true beauty”, she smiles. “Pagaentry gave me a platform to say that wellness isn’t just about weight loss. It’s about happiness, gratitude, and positive mindset”

When asked what is her future plans and her goal, to become a TED speaker, start podcasts and inspire a new generation, especially women in their 20s.

“I’m turning 39, If I can do this, I hope they’ll take the torch and run with it”.
Empowering Mothers: Stories Of Change

At the heart of Dr.Y Dr.S Wellness are real women with real stories. Annam, a 50 year old entrepreneur, juggles running a soil test company and raising a son as a single mother. She shared her journey,

“Being a single mother, taking care of my son and raising him while juggling my job isn’t an easy task at all, but if you are in the right mindset and you’re physically strong, it will change that feeling. I used to weigh 100kg, my diabetic and cholesterol were at the border. In just a week at Dr.Y Dr S, I saw a change, and never looked back. Years later, I’ve lost 18kg and gained a whole new perspective”.

After four years of being in Dr. Y Dr S, Annam’s journey has not only changed her physical health but mental health too.

“Two years later Dr Shalini made me a pre-trainer, she gave me the opportunity and put her trust in me even when I didn’t. Now I am a certified pre-trainer in two studios”.

Another single mother, Letchumy Naido, a mom of two kids, says Dr Y Dr S and Dr Shalini changed my life, “After being a single mother, I was totally lost, not knowing what I want, what’s my goal. Just like that I wasted 20 years of my life. This place and Dr gave me the confidence, my strength and now I help other women to do the same”.

“All I want to tell the women out there is, you don’t have to always be at home, when you come out and explore there’s many things around the world waiting for us. We will learn our strength and become strong. So take care of yourself, be healthy, exercise more and keep your body and mind strong”.

Saraswathy, who left her corporate job to raise her daughter, struggled with weight gain after giving birth. Her journey with Dr Shalini started when her sister came into the program and lost 26kg. She then joined for the 60 days diet, followed strict diets, and after losing my weight I got motivated and decided I should bring others up too.

“I turned my pain to passion, having muscle pain is better than illness pain”.

These women are not just members, they’re trainers, role models and a living proof that wellness is possible at any age.

Backbone of the Movement: Dr Shalini’s Mother

Dr. Shalini’s mother, Daisy is both an inspiration and a trainer at the studio. She shared an important point,

“Neglect is the biggest enemy, as women were used to be prioritizing everyone else, husbands, kids, in-laws, we tend to forget ourselves. But health must come first. We should take care of our physical health earlier and not regret later on. I am 61 years old, and illness free because I made time for myself”.

More Than Fitness, A Movement to Respect and Love Yourself

Dr. Shalini believes that success isn’t measured in money, but in respect.

“Being a mother, working, cooking and managing a family is a lot, yes. But that’s responsibility, not excuse. You deserve to take care of yourself.”

She is a living proof that fitness is compulsory. But happiness, confidence and gratitude, those are the real gains. Dr Shalini’s story isn’t just about health, it’s about healing. The community she has built at Dr. Y Dr S is a powerful reminder that transformation and mental health is possible no matter your age, background or situation.

When you walk into the studio, all you hear is laughter and music, everyone in that place, men or women, all of them are happy and free. They are not just a community but a family. From mothers in walkers to grandfathers each and one of them trust to be here as they feel safe. This is a movement and it’s only just getting started.
