As anticipation builds for the May 1 release of Retro, the upcoming film by acclaimed director Karthik Subbaraj, the makers have unveiled the third single from the movie’s soundtrack. Titled “The One,” the track, featuring lead actor Suriya, was released this past Saturday, adding to the growing excitement surrounding the film.
“The One” stands out as a unique hero elevation track, notable for its subtle, non beat-heavy approach. Composed by Santhosh Narayanan, the song features soulful vocals by both Santhosh and Sid Sriram, with rapper Shan Vincent De Paul (SVDP) adding a dynamic edge through his rap segments. The lyrics for this powerful number have been thoughtfully written by Vivek.
While Sid Sriram is widely celebrated for his soulful melodies and emotive vocal style, The One showcases a completely different side of his musical versatility. Unlike his usual soft and heartfelt numbers, this track is raw, intense, and packed with energy.

With a fast-paced rhythm and powerful instrumentation, every note hits with purpose, adding to the song’s bold and dynamic vibe. Sid’s vocals, combined with the gritty beats and fiery rap portions, bring a unique edge to this unconventional hero-elevation number, making it stand out in his diverse musical repertoire.
Retro features Pooja Hegde as the female lead, alongside an impressive ensemble cast that includes Joju George, Jayaram, Karunakaran, Nassar, and Prakash Raj in significant roles. The film marks Suriya’s 44th project and is being produced by Suriya, Jyotika, and Rajsekar Karpoorasundarapandian under the 2D Entertainment banner. Additionally, Karthik Subbaraj and Kaarthekeyan S are co-producing the film under their production house, Stone Bench Films.
Retro began filming last year and completed its shoot in October. Although an earlier teaser hinted at Suriya’s character attempting to leave behind his criminal past for the woman he loves, played by Pooja Hegde, the full storyline of the film remains tightly under wraps. The technical team behind Retro includes Santhosh Narayanan as the music composer, Shreyaas Krishna handling cinematography, and Shafique Mohamed Ali in charge of editing.

With its intriguing premise, powerhouse performances, and a strong creative team, Retro is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated films of the year. The release of The One has only amplified the buzz, giving audiences a glimpse of the film’s bold tone and musical richness. As fans count down to May 1, expectations are high that Retro will deliver a gripping cinematic experience that blends style, emotion, and substance in true Karthik Subbaraj signature style.
