From Home Kitchen to Restaurant, Amachi’s Palagaram Returns with a New Space in USJ 11

One of Subang Jaya’s most beloved appam spots, Amachi’s Palagaram has finally returned after a short hiatus. But this time, they are serving their signature menu and snacks in a brand new restaurant located in USJ 11, Subang Jaya. After months of anticipation, following their closure of their home based shop located at SS17, regulars and newbies can once again savour the nostalgic taste of Amachi’s Palagaram crispy, and tasteful appams.

Owned and operated by husband and wife duo Aaron and Narmatha, Amachi’s Palagaram is more than just a food business, it’s a heartfelt move to cherish Narmatha’s grandmother, also known as ‘Amachi’, who began selling traditional Indian snacks from her home in the 1970s to support her family. What began as necessity slowly became a passion and passed down to generations. Now it is operated and taken care of by her children and grandchildren.

Last September, Narmatha and Aaron announced the closure of their SS17 home based shop through a heartfelt video, a moment where many regulars and neighborhood families were saddened.

The move from home kitchen in SS17 to a restaurant reflects a significant milestone to the family. Their signature appams, soft-centered with crispy edges are still made fresh to order. Whether you prefer egg appam, the indulge of a double yolk version or the mild sweetness of paal appam topped with jaggery, each bite remains loyal to the tradition. Their coconut sambal continues to be the perfect combination for the egg appam.

All these years, Amachi’s Palagaram was more about connection than food. Before their closure of their SS17 location, the shop was a hangout spot where families and friends gathered over a warm appam and conversations. The new USJ 11 restaurant aims to have the same atmosphere, offering not only a dine in service but a warmth and personal touch that made the original shop memorable.

Here are the opening and closing hours:
  • Tuesday-Friday: From 10.30-6.30pm
  • Saturday-Sunday: 8.30am-6.30pm
  • Breaktime: 2pm-3pm
  • Last Order: 6pm
Location: 16, Jalan USJ 11/3J, USJ 11, 47620 Subang Jaya, Selangor
