Malaysia’s squash star S.Sivasangari delivered a powerful performance at the 2025 Grasshopper Cup Zurich, Switzerland, securing her spot in the finals after defeating world No.6 Tinne Gillis of Belgium in a gripping semi-finals match.
The world No.11 showed a remarkable grit eventually winning 13-11, 7-11, 11-8, 15-13 after 53 minutes intense play. This victory marked her second win over Gillis in three meetings and highlighted Sivasangari’s rise in the global squash scene.
The 27-year old, who clinched the Cincinnati Cup earlier this year, now prepares to face world No.1 Nouran Gohar of Egypt, a strong opponent who has already won title at Texas open and El Gouna International this season, and has defeated Sivasangari in three previous encounters. Nevertheless, Sivasangari’s recent fighting spirit shows that she is ready to challenge the very best.
This will be Sivasangari’s second career Gold-level final, following her breakthrough win at the London Classic last year. Reflecting on her semi-final triumph, Sivasangari credited her menta; toughness and the unconditional support of her team for pushing her across the finish line through tough moments.
Apart from Sivasangari, Malaysia’s top men’s player Ng Eain Yow has also advanced to the finals at the Squash On Fire Open in Washington, United States, adding a strong game for Malaysian squash.
Now all the eyes are on both the squash players. As Sivasangari is on for her finals to face Nouran Gohar, Malaysian’s are hoping to watch her win the title.
