Actor and director M.Sasikumar, known for his storytelling and impactful films, has revealed plans for his next directorial venture, a period film set in a rural backdrop. In a recent interview during promotions for his upcoming release, Tourist Family, Sasikumar confirmed that pre-production is currently going on and filming is slated to begin in January 2026.
Sasikumar has also confirmed that he will play a character in the film as well, and promises to delve into themes rooted in tradition and time, continuing Sasikumar’s legacy of stories that reflect the ideology of Tamil village life. While few plot details are available, the project marks Sasikumar’s return to the director’s chair after a gap, building the anticipation among his fans.

He also addressed a long anticipated period film script that has once been pitched to stars like Vijay and Suriya, noting that the film is still waiting for the right lead to take forward.
“It hasn’t been materialized because I haven’t found the right protagonist. But I can do that film at any point in time, when I find my hero”.
In the meantime, Sasikumar is keeping busy with acting commitments, including his upcoming film Tourist Family, releasing on 1st May, featuring Simran, Yogi Babu, MS Bhaskar and Ramesh Thilak. The film is directed by Abishan Jeevinth and produced by Million Dollar Studio and MRP Entertainment with music by Sean Roldan.

Sasikumar has also produced several other films in various stages of production, including Freedom, Evidence, Naa Naa and Pagaivanukku Arulvai, making 2025 a packed year for him both front and behind camera.
With this upcoming period drama in shelves, fans can expect a return to the kind of emotionally grounded, rich cultural narratives that puts Sasikumar on the map.
