At a recent promotional event in Thiruvananthapuram for his upcoming film Retro, acclaimed actor Suriya made a clear and powerful statement against smoking. Addressing the audience alongside fellow actors Joju George and Jayaram, Suriya emphasised that while his on-screen roles may depict smoking, he personally does not support the habit. He urged fans not to be misled by cinematic portrayals, warning of the addictive nature of smoking and encouraging everyone to stay away from it altogether.
Expressing heartfelt gratitude, Suriya referred to the people of Thiruvananthapuram as his family and thanked them for their overwhelming support. “I’m truly humbled by your love,” he said. “Watching all of you stand for hours just to be part of this event leaves me speechless. I don’t have words to fully express my appreciation. Kerala will always remain God’s own country, a place where all forms of art are deeply respected and celebrated.”

Suriya went on to share his excitement about working on the film, saying, “This is a Karthik Subbaraj film, and I’m thrilled to be part of it. I’m also happy to collaborate with Alphonse Puthren, who crafted the trailer for the movie.” He praised Karthik Subbaraj’s unique storytelling style, adding, “He has a distinct genre and voice of his own. I’ve been wanting to work with him for a long time, and finally, it happened. The four months we spent filming felt like being with family.” Suriya also noted that Retro will stand apart from all his previous films and expressed confidence that audiences will enjoy it. He further lauded his co-stars Joju George and Jayaram for their outstanding performances in the film.
Suriya is currently busy with an extensive promotional tour for his upcoming romantic action film, directed by Karthik Subbaraj. Just a day prior, he was in Hyderabad promoting Retro, where he appeared on stage with actor Vijay Devarakonda. During the event, Suriya confirmed that his next project will be a collaboration with director Venky Atluri.
Retro is jointly produced by Suriya and Jyotika’s 2D Entertainment along with Karthik Subbaraj’s Stone Bench Films. The film features Pooja Hegde in the lead female role, and boasts a strong ensemble cast that includes Jayaram, Nasser, Prakash Raj, Sujith Shankar, Karunakaran, Tamizh, Prem Kumar, Ramachandran Durairaj, Sandeep Raj, Murugavel, and Remya Suresh, among others.

Retro began filming last year and completed its shoot in October. The recently released trailer reveals that Suriya’s character is attempting to leave behind a life of crime in pursuit of love, particularly for the character played by Pooja Hegde. Edited by acclaimed filmmaker Alphonse Puthren, the trailer is crafted to reflect the film’s intense tone and Suriya’s emotionally charged role.
With music composed by Santhosh Narayanan, Retro boasts a skilled technical team that includes Shreyaas Krishna as the cinematographer, Shafique Mohamed as the editor, Jackson handling art direction, Kecha Khamphakdee as the action choreographer, and Praveen Raja in charge of costume design. The film has recently passed censorship with a U/A rating and has a confirmed runtime of 2 hours, 48 minutes, and 30 seconds.
