Celebrate Labour Day with Suriya’s ‘Retro’ and Sasikumar’s ‘Tourist Family’

Today marks Labour Day, a public holiday observed across the country to honour the contributions of workers. As many take the day off to relax and unwind at home, it’s also the perfect opportunity to indulge in some entertainment. This year, the occasion is made even more special with the release of two eagerly awaited films in cinemas.

Retro

First up is Retro, directed by the acclaimed filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj and starring the versatile Suriya. Also hitting the big screen is Tourist Family, a light-hearted family entertainer featuring Sasikumar and Simran in the lead.

Retro is being distributed in Malaysia by DMY Creation and has been receiving an overwhelmingly positive response, both in India and Malaysia. Widely regarded as the biggest comeback for Suriya, the film has generated tremendous anticipation among fans and critics alike. Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, Retro features a powerful musical score composed by Santhosh Narayanan. The soundtrack has struck a chord with listeners, with all the songs becoming fan favourites—especially “Kannima,” which has emerged as a sensational hit.

The trailer of Retro earned widespread acclaim upon its release, with many calling the film highly promising. Packed with intense action sequences, the trailer created the impression of a full-fledged action film. However, director Karthik Subbaraj clarified that Retro is not just about action—it also carries a deep and emotional love story at its core. Interestingly, Subbaraj originally wrote the script with Superstar Rajinikanth in mind. As the story evolved and its emotional depth grew, he felt that Suriya would be the perfect fit for the lead role. Now, with sky-high anticipation and strong audience interest, Retro is running successfully in cinemas nationwide.

Tourist Family

Meanwhile, another noteworthy release is Tourist Family, directed by Abishan Jeevinth and starring Sasikumar and Simran in the lead roles. The film’s music is composed by Sean Roldan. The trailer has received a warm response, offering a glimpse of a story filled with both humour and heartfelt moments. It follows Sasikumar and his family, portrayed as a Sri Lankan household, navigating a mix of comedic and emotional experiences. With popular comedian Yogi Babu also part of the cast, the film is expected to deliver plenty of laughs. Tourist Family is being distributed in Malaysia by Five Star Trading and is now showing in cinemas nationwide.

Sasikumar’s films are known for delivering strong, meaningful messages, and Tourist Family appears to follow that same tradition. It promises to be a film that’s not only entertaining but also thought-provoking and worth watching.
