Every year, the Met Gala transforms the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, United States into the most fashionable runaway in the world. Met Gala takes place annually on the first Monday of May. This year it was held on the 6th of May. The event once again gathered many artists all over the world from the fashion, film, and music industries for an extravagant night that blends high fashion with artistic storytelling. Met Gala is often referred to as ‘fashion’s biggest night out’. In 2025, it was even more special for the South Asians as the spotlight was more bright on India, with several of its top stars stealing the show on the blue carpet.
The 2025 theme is ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’, to honor the legacy of Black dandyism and their impact on fashion. Among those who truly embodied this vision were India’s most celebrated personalities.
Shah Rukh Khan Makes Historic Debut
For the first time ever, Bollywood’s legendary actor Shah Rukh Khan graced the Met Gala carpet, becoming the first Indian Male Actor to attend the iconic event. Known for his timeless charisma, Shah Rukh Khan arrived in a regal black suit by Sabyasachi Mukherjee, paired with gold accessories, a walking cane, and a brooch featuring the letter ‘K’, a nod to his title ‘King Khan’.
Kiara Advani Celebrates Motherhood in Met Gala Debut
Another major moment at the event came from Bollywood actress Kiara Advani, who made her Met Gala debut this year. Glowing and radiant, Kiara is expecting her first child, hence she wore a custom off shoulder black gown with gold embellishments and a flowing white trail designed by Gaurav Gupta. Designed to reflect both grandeur and tenderness, her look featured a heart shaped mini plate on her belly, symbolizing her baby. This made her assemble a heartfelt tribute to motherhood wrapped in high fashion.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas Returns with Timeless Glamour
Priyanka Chopra made her fifth appearance at the Met Gala in style. This year, she went for a bold and tailored polka dot suit dress designed by Oliver Rousteing of Balmain. Her structured silhouette was beautified with a wide hat and a 241 carat Magnus Emerald Pendant from Bulgari. Accompanied by her husband, Nick Jonas, Priyanka’s look was both avant garde and elegant, aligning with the 2025 theme.
Diljit Dosanjh Brings Punjabi Pride to the Blue Carpet
Making waves on his first Met appearance, Bollywood singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh turned heads in a royal Punjabi sherwani designed by Prabal Gurung and styled by Abhilasha Devnani. The assembly was a tribute to his Punjabi culture and heritage, showcasing the ‘Tailored To You’ essence of this year’s theme, which encouraged stars to blend their personal cultural narratives into their outfit. With his signature turban and confidence, Diljit brought tradition and modern flair into the event.
Manish Malhotra Makes His Debut by Attending Met Gala
Manish Malhotra, the legendary designer who has styled multiple celebrities, made his debut by walking on the blue carpet this year. Manish Malhotra created a historic moment by attending the event with a midnight velvet sculptural sherwani with clear lines, layered under Inverness inspired cape. The tailored blazer he wore gave structure and modern contrast. Along with that, he also designed Natasha Poonawalla’s Met Gala attire.
Sabyasachi Mukherjee: Tailored Tribute to History
This year by not just being behind the scenes, Sabyasachi himself walked the Met Gala carpet in a deeply symbolic look inspired by Jamsetji Tata, who founded Taj Hotels after facing racial exclusion. With a hand quitted, paired with satin layers and black quilted trousers. A statement kamarbandh, embroidered shoes, and traditional Indian cap, enhanced with layered emerald jewelry from his own brand.
Isha Ambani: A tribute to Legacy and Artisanship
Isha Ambani has returned to the Met Gala in a couture created by Anamika Khanna that took over 15,000 hours to complete. The look was a tribute to India’s textile heritage, with every stitch reflecting the generational artistry of Indian craftsmen. Styled by Anaita Shroff Adajania, Isha wore jewellery from her mom and own personal collection, including a vintage inspired necklace with 89 stones, featuring an 80.73 carat cushion cut diamond once linked to the Maharaja of Nawanagar. With diamond buttons down her coat, a diamond hip headpiece and pearl encrusted bird accessories in her hair, Isha’s outfit defined luxury through heritage.
