Due to the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, the much-anticipated audio launch of Thug Life, the upcoming film from the iconic duo Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam, has been postponed. Originally slated for May 16 at the Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai, the event has been deferred in light of the current geopolitical situation.
Kamal Haasan and Raaj Kamal Films International issued an official statement saying, “Art can wait — the nation comes first. Considering the current situation at the country’s borders and the heightened state of alert, we have made the decision to postpone the audio launch of Thug Life, which was initially scheduled for May 16.”
As part of Operation Sindoor, India carried out precision strikes on terrorist camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The operation was launched in retaliation for the Pahalgam massacre, which occurred two weeks ago and claimed the lives of 26 people, most of whom were tourists.

The filmmakers have not yet finalized a new date for the audio launch. In a statement, they expressed, “As our brave soldiers remain steadfast on the frontlines, defending our motherland with unwavering courage, this is a moment for solemn support—not festivity. A revised date will be announced later, when the time feels more fitting. For now, our hearts are with the courageous men and women of our armed forces who vigilantly protect the nation. As responsible citizens, we must respond with composure and unity. Celebration must take a backseat to reflection.”
In addition to Kamal Haasan, Thug Life features an ensemble cast that includes Silambarasan, Trisha, Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Joju George, Abhirami, Nassar, Mahesh Manjrekar, Tanikella Bharani, Vadivukkarasi, Chinni Jayanth, Vaiyapuri, Bagavathi Perumal, Baburaj, Ali Fazal, Rohit Saraf, Arjun Chidambaram, Chetan, and Rajashri Deshpande.
Thug Life marks the much-anticipated reunion of Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan, coming together after 36 years since their iconic collaboration in Nayakan. The film is jointly produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Red Giant Movies, Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International, and Mani Ratnam’s Madras Talkies. Thug Life is slated for a theatrical release on June 5.
