Ilaiyaraaja to Donate Concert Fees & One Month’s Salary to National Defence Fund Amidst India-Pakistan Tensions

Amidst the ongoing conflict between India and Pakistan, legendary music composer Ilaiyaraaja announced on X (formerly Twitter) his decision to contribute to the National Defence Fund.

In the post he mentioned that “earlier this year, I composed & recorded my first symphony and named it “Valiant”, unaware that in May our real heroes, our soldiers, would need to act with bravery, boldness, courage, precision and determination at the borders to counter the cold-blooded killing of innocent tourists in Pahalgam.”

Following his announcement, Ilaiyaraaja invoked the powerful words of the iconic Tamil poet and Indian freedom fighter, Subramania Bharathi. He quoted, “Jaya Bherigai Kottada, Kottada, Jaya Bherigai Kottada,” which translates to “Play the drums of victory, play, play the drums of victory.” This stirring line is a call to rally the spirit of triumph and national pride.

As a Member of Parliament, Ilaiyaraaja has pledged to donate both his concert earnings and one month’s salary to the National Defence Fund, in recognition of the dedication and sacrifices made by the nation’s soldiers.

Notably, following India’s launch of Operation Sindoor — a mission aimed at dismantling terrorist infrastructure and eliminating militants in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and the neighboring rival nation — Ilaiyaraaja was among the many public figures who voiced their support. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the acclaimed composer wrote, “Where goes the king, there goes the people,” expressing solidarity with the government’s actions. He also included the hashtag #OperationSindoor in his post, aligning himself with the national sentiment.

Ilaiyaraaja’s gesture stands as a powerful example of how influential voices can amplify national unity and morale during times of crisis. Through his words, actions, and contributions, the maestro not only reaffirmed his deep-rooted patriotism but also inspired countless others to acknowledge and support the sacrifices made by the armed forces.
