Malaysia’s leading women’s doubles pair, Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah, delivered an impressive performance at the Singapore Open Badminton Championship, securing their place in the quarter-finals. The dynamic duo overcame Japan’s experienced pair, Yuki Fukushima and Mayu Matsumoto, in a thrilling match held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium earlier today, marking a significant step forward in their tournament campaign.
Entering the tournament as the fourth seeds, the Malaysian duo encountered stiff competition in the opening set, especially from Matsumoto, a two-time world champion with her former partner, Wakana Nagahara.
However, the fiercely contested first set ultimately went in favour of Pearly and Thinaah, who edged it 25-23. They carried that momentum into the second set, where they faced less resistance and sealed a 21-18 win, securing their place in the quarter-finals after a tightly contested 46-minute match.

Next, they will await the outcome of the match between China’s duo, Jia Yi Fan and Zhang Shu Xian, and the eighth-seeded Indian pair, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand Pullela, to determine their opponents in tomorrow’s semi-final.
With their strong performance and growing confidence, Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah have once again proven their status as serious contenders on the international stage. As they await their next opponents, all eyes will be on the Malaysian pair to see if they can maintain their momentum and advance further in the tournament. Their resilience and teamwork continue to inspire, and fans will be hoping for another standout performance in the semi-finals.
