Malaysia’s top women’s doubles shuttlers Pearly Tan and M.Thinaah showed a strong determination on Thursday as they staged a comeback to book their place in the quarter-finals of the Indonesia Open 2025.

The world No.4 duo battled past Indonesia’s Lanny Tria Mayasari and Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti in front of home crowd at Istora Senayan, Jakarta. After dropping the first game 18-21, Pearly-Thinaah found their rhythm and roared back to win the next two games 21-16, 21-17 in a tightly contested 58 minute encounter.

This marks their second win over the Indonesian pair in three head-to=head meetings and is another positive step as they chase their maiden BWF Tour Super 1000 series title.

The Malaysian pair are in fine form after winning the Thailand Open Super 500 title last month. Now just one step away from the semi-finals in Jakarta, Pearly and Thinaah will face either their compatriots Ong Xin Yee-Carmen Ting or Japan’s world No.5 duo Rin Iwanaga-Kie Nakanishi in the last eight.

Their quarter final challenge now comes in the form of Indonesia’s world No.8 team. Sabar Karyanam Gutama and Reza Pahlevi Isfahani. Although the Malaysians lead their head-to-head record 3-0, the Indonesian pair’s recent performances indicate a tough clash ahead.

With multiple Malaysian pairs advancing into the quarter-finals, hopes are high for a strong finish at the Indonesia Open. Pearly-Thinaah, in particular, continue to cement their status as one of the world’s most consistent women’s doubles teams, combining grit and hunger for gold.

Fans will be watching closely as they inch closer to their biggest title yet.
