Commuters on the Kelana Jaya LRT line can expect late station openings on selected weekends starting 9th August, as Prasarana Malaysia Berhad begins Phase 2 of a critical signaling system upgrade aimed at improving the safety, reliability and efficiency of the rails service.
A total of 10 stations between KLCC and Gombak will open at 9am instead of the usual 6am every Saturday and Sunday from 9th August to September 14th 2025. This three-hour delay will facilitate live testing of a newly upgraded Automatic Train Control (ATC) system, part of a broader RM150 million mid-life upgrade for the line.

What’s Being Upgraded?
The Kelana Jaya line, which has operated on the same signaling infrastructure since 1998, is currently undergoing a major technological leap. The existing SelTrac ATC system will be upgraded from software version 2 to version 8, and legacy hardware components, many of which are no longer supported by the manufacturer, will be replaced.

“This will significantly enhance safety, enable better train regulation and ensure reliable operations for the next 20 years,” said Dr Prodyut Dutt, Prasarana’s Group Chief Operating Officer for Strategy and Development
He added that over 80% of the design and development for the new signaling system has already been completed, with final stages involving live tests on active rail lines.
Which Stations Are Affected?
The late opening schedule for Phase 2 will cover these stations:
- 9th August, 10th August, 16th August, 17th August, 23rd August: KLCC, Ampang Park, Damai, Dato Keramat, Jelatek
- 5th September to 7th September and 14th September: Setiawangsa, Sri Rampai, Wangsa Maju, Taman Melati, Gombak.
The next phase (Phase 3) will run from 11th October to 22nd November, affecting 17 stations between Lembah Subang and Ampang Park, including major hubs such as KL Sentral, Pasar Seni, Masjid Jamek, and KLCC.

Shuttle Buses and Vans to Support Commuters
To ease commuter inconvenience, Prasarana will deploy shuttle services during the late openings. A limited shuttle train will operate between Pasar Seni and Kampung Baru at 10 to 20 minute intervals.
Two dedicated shuttle bus routes will serve passengers beyond Kampung Baru:
Bus Route 2 will stop at all affected stations between Dang Wangi and Gombak
Bus Route 3 will serve as a limited-stop express service, halting only at Dang Wangi, KLCC, Ampang Park, Setiawangsa, Sri Rampai, and Wangsa Maju, offering a faster ride for longer-distance commuters.
Additionally, five intermediate vans will run continuously from 6am to 9am between Kampung Baru and KLCC for last-mile access to the city.
Passenger Impact and Planning Tools
Phase 2 is expected to affect 7000 passengers, while Phase 3 could impact up to 20,000 commuters. To support public awareness, flyers have been distributed at all stations, and full service details are available on Prasarana’s official website and mobile channels.
Commuters are strongly encouraged to plan ahead, use the PULSE app for real-time updates, and consider alternative routes during the affected weekends. The National Transport Commission has approved the revised weekend operating hours to allow more time for engineering works.
As Malaysia continues to invest in modernizing public transport, commuters can look forward to a smoother, safer, and more dependable LRT experience once the signaling project is fully complete.
