Superstar Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie’ Creates History in Malaysia; Anirudh Says the Film Blends Star Power with Intelligence

The buzz around Coolie is reaching fever pitch as its release date draws near. Audiences are eagerly awaiting the film, with the team ramping up promotions and dropping exciting updates that have only heightened expectations. In Malaysia, distribution is handled by Malik Streams Corporation, one of the country’s most prominent names in the film industry.

Promotions for Coolie in Malaysia are gaining momentum, further raising excitement for the film’s release. In anticipation, Vikadakavi Productions has reintroduced the classic movie Thalapathi to the big screen, offering audiences a rare opportunity to experience vintage Thalaivar magic in cinemas once again. Since Coolie also features the iconic sunset scene from Thalapathi, this revival is set to be a special treat for devoted Thalaivar fans.

The movie trailer is set to premiere on the big screen at NU Sentral, and all seats have already been fully booked. This Sunday, Malik Streams will host the largest hot-air balloon launch at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur — a first for a Tamil film in Malaysia. Coolie has already made history even before its official release.

While anticipation for Coolie continues to build, the film’s music composer, Anirudh, shared his excitement in a recent interview with Suryan FM. He described Coolie as offering “the best of both worlds — star power and smarts.” Anirudh noted, “There’s immense anticipation for this film. It’s a Rajinikanth sir movie, and my past collaborations with him have all been hits, as have my projects with Lokesh. This is the first time the two are working together, and with Sun Pictures backing the project, it’s even more special. Just the other day, Lokesh and I were talking about how incredible the hype has been — and that’s with only three songs and a few back shots of the actors released. We haven’t even put out the teaser or trailer yet.”

Explaining why the film will be a delight for both fans and cinema enthusiasts, he said, “Coolie will highlight Lokesh’s strengths as a storyteller. It’s a smart and well-crafted film that also delivers on star power, with both elements blending seamlessly.”

Produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures banner, Coolie features an impressive ensemble cast. Nagarjuna takes on the role of Simon, Sathyaraj plays Rajasekar, Upendra appears as Kaleesha, Shruti Haasan portrays Preethi, and Soubin Shahir plays Dayal. Rajinikanth leads the film as Deva. Adding to the buzz, it was recently confirmed that Aamir Khan will appear as Dahaa — a revelation that has further heightened anticipation for the movie.

The film’s technical team includes cinematographer Girish Gangadharan, editor Philomin Raj, and stunt choreography by the renowned duo Anbariv. Dialogues have been penned by Lokesh in collaboration with Chandhru Anbazhagan, who has also contributed to the film’s additional screenplay. Coolie is slated for release on 14 August.
