National women’s doubles star M. Thinaah says she is more focused on maintaining consistency with her partner, Pearly Tan, than on chasing the world No. 2 ranking. The 27-year-old emphasised that their main goal is to deliver steady performances and secure strong results in every tournament they compete in.
“To me, being ranked world No. 2 is just a figure,” she said. “What truly matters for us is maintaining consistent performances and continuing to support each other every time we step onto the court,” she told reporters after a training session at the Akademi Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara yesterday.
Thinaah added that their preparations are progressing well ahead of the 2025 Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Championships, which will take place in Paris from August 25 to September 1.

“We’re truly excited to be back training together on court,” she said. “The World Championships is undoubtedly a major tournament, and we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to compete in it. We’re simply looking forward to the challenge and focusing on our preparations.”
Pearly and Thinaah recently reached a major milestone in their careers, climbing one place in the latest BWF rankings to achieve a career-best world No. 2 position on Tuesday (July 29). This accomplishment is a testament to their consistent performances and growing stature as one of the leading women’s doubles pairs on the international stage.
This season, they have delivered a string of consistent performances — capturing the Thailand Open title, finishing as runners-up at the Indonesia Open, reaching the semi-finals of the Malaysia Masters, and securing a quarter-final berth at the Singapore Open.
Their most recent accomplishment was finishing as runners-up at last month’s Japan Open, where they fell to world No. 1 pair Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning of China in the final.
With their sights set firmly on consistency and steady improvement, Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah are entering the World Championships with confidence and determination. Their impressive run of results this season and their climb to a career-high world No. 2 ranking reflect a partnership built on trust, hard work, and resilience. As they prepare to take on the world’s best in Paris, the Malaysian pair will be looking to carry their momentum forward and turn their strong form into a breakthrough on the sport’s biggest stage.
