At a time when Tamil cinema is slowly warming up to sequels and franchise-building, actor Sivakarthikeyan has shared his candid thoughts on the idea of returning to one of his most celebrated roles, Sathya from Maaveeran. Speaking at the recent NASSCOM People Summit 2025, the star addressed fans’ growing curiosity about potential sequels in his filmography, especially after a string of successful projects.
“I am very scared about sequels. I will make sure that the second part won’t spoil the first one”. While he admitted to being generally cautious on sequels, he’ll make an exception for one particular film, ‘Maaveeran’.

“But I think we should try a sequel to Maaveeran. I feel it is a unique script’.
The comment has since ignited speculation about a possible reunion with Maaveeran director Madonne Ashwin, known for his National Award winning film Mandela. If the Maaveeran sequel happens, it could mark another major collaboration in Sivakarthikeyan’s already packed lineup.

Released in 2023, Maaveeran was widely acclaimed for its blend of fantasy, satire, and socio-political commentary. The film followed the story of Sathya, a timid comic book artist who draws a valiant superhero for a Tamil daily. After a mysterious fall from a terrace, Sathya begins hearing a voice, a voice that narrates his life like a comic book, pushing him to fight against the corrupt system he once avoided. The film starred Aditi Shankar, Saritha, Mysskin, Monisha Blessy, Yogi Babu, and Sunil, and was praised for its inventive narrative and emotional depth.

The success of Maaveeran wasn’t just limited to India. The film recently made its way to theatres in Japan, complete with Japanese subtitles, expanding its global reach and earning it a new international fan base.
Beyond Maaveeran: What’s Next for Sivakarthikeyan?
Sivakarthikeyan was last seen in Amaran, a biographical action drama directed by Rajkumar Periasamy and co-starring Sai Pallavi. The film earned both critical and commercial acclaim for its powerful performances and gripping story.
Up next, the actor is gearing up for Madharasi, an action packed thriller directed by AR Muragadoss, set for a grand release on 5th September 2025. The film’s first single Salambala, composed by Anirudh Ravichander and sung by Sai Abhyankkar, has already generated a buzz among fans. Madharasi also stars Rukmini Vasanth, Vidyut Jammwal, and Biju Menon, making it one of the most anticipated films of the year.

In parallel, Sivakarthikeyan is also shooting for Parasakthi, a high-profile project directed by Sudha Kongara. With multiple major films in the pipeline, the actor shows no signs of slowing down.
Will Maaveeran 2 Happen?
While no official announcement has been made, Sivakarthikeyan’s openness to a Maaveeran sequel, combined with his careful approach to maintain the integrity of original stories, suggest that if the right script comes along, fans might see Sathya return to take on a new wave of injustice. Until then, fans can look forward to seeing Sivakarthikeyan in diverse roles that continue to push the boundaries of mainstream Tamil cinema.
