The Communications Ministry has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Malaysian artistes facing long-term health and financial challenges, especially those suffering from permanent disabilities. While aid from the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) is currently offered as a one-off support mechanism, the Ministry says it is prepared to go further by coordinating with the Social Welfare Department (JKM) for monthly aid applications when necessary.
Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said the Ministry is open to helping artistes in exceptional circumstances through a collaborative approach with relevant welfare agencies.
“If there are emergency cases, such as permanent disability requiring monthly assistance, we have no issue helping to liaise with JKM, as that falls under their jurisdiction,” she said during a recent press conference.

She stressed that FINAS remains ready to assist with applicants in special cases.
“FINAS can still consider helping with applications in exceptional cases like this”, she added.
The statement came during Teo’s visit under the Ziarah Seni MADANI FINAS programme, where she met with two veteran artists currently facing serious health conditions. The visit was joined by FINAS chairman Datuk Hans Isaac, CEO Datuk Azmir Saifuddin Mutalib, and the FINAS Industry Affairs, Welfare and Data Committee chairman Rozaidi Abd Jamil.
Among those visited was comedian and actor, Sathiya (61), widely remembered for his role as Ravi in the beloved sitcom Pi Mai Pi Mai Tang Tu. He is currently receiving treatment at Ampang Hospital after undergoing surgery to amputate three parts of his left foot, including the big toe, due to a severe infection.

Also receiving the aid was Mohd Shah Rosli (50), known as Dino from hip-hop group Nico G. Dino is recuperating at home after suffering a stroke three weeks ago while on duty, which affected the right side of his body and required urgent medical care.

Both artists received cash aid and essential supplies from the Ministry and FINAS to help ease their financial and physical burdens. Teo noted that such welfare assistance extends beyond just financial support, it is a gesture of appreciation for the contributions made by these creative individuals to the entertainment and cultural landscape of Malaysia.
“This aid is not only from the ministry but also from several other parties, to be channeled to artists in need as a show of concern and support for the contributions of those in the creative industry.”

Since 2024, the Ziarah Seni MADANI initiative has reached 163 artists with various forms of support, including festive season assistance. The programme aims to uphold the dignity and well-being of creative professionals, particularly those who face unexpected hardship after a lifetime of entertaining and inspiring audiences.
For artists in need of long-term support, the Ministry encourages collaboration with welfare bodies like JKM to ensure no one in the industry is left behind.
