Lokesh Kanagaraj’s highly awaited action drama Coolie, starring the legendary Rajinikanth, is shaping up to be a global cinematic spectacle just days before its grand theatrical release. With unprecedented pre-release ticket sales breaking records across markets, the film is poised to set a new benchmark in the history of Tamil cinema.
Trade reports indicate that Coolie has already amassed over ₹80 crore in advance bookings worldwide, with more than 1.8 million tickets sold ahead of its release. The pre-release momentum is nothing short of extraordinary, and current trends suggest the film will easily surpass the ₹100 crore mark by opening day—possibly even touching ₹150 crore if sales continue at this pace. Industry analysts are forecasting a colossal global opening day gross of over ₹125 crore, potentially putting it within striking distance of the all-time Tamil cinema record held by Thalapathy Vijay’s Leo (₹143 crore).
In North America, Coolie has achieved a groundbreaking milestone. According to Sun Pictures, the producers, it has become the first Tamil film to surpass $2 million in premiere pre-sales in the region—reaching the mark with a full day still remaining. That figure has since surged to nearly $3 million, toppling the previous record of $1.9 million set by Rajinikanth’s own Kabali (2016). It has also outperformed other recent Tamil blockbusters, including Leo, The GOAT, Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1, and Jailer.
In India, the excitement has been just as intense, with ticket sales in the Telugu states erupting into a frenzy as soon as bookings opened. Reports suggest that Coolie’s pre-release figures are set to surpass the ₹96.50 crore day-one record of Jailer, positioning it as Rajinikanth’s biggest opening day performance to date.
Here in Malaysia, Malik Streams Corporation has acquired the distribution rights for Coolie and is gearing up for a grand release. Bookings are now open, and pre-sales have already crossed 140,000 tickets, with the excitement showing no signs of slowing down.

Coolie, an action-packed thriller, marks the first-ever collaboration between Rajinikanth and director Lokesh Kanagaraj. However, as the filmmaker has previously clarified, the movie will not be part of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU). The star-studded cast features Nagarjuna, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, Shruti Haasan, and Aamir Khan, with Pooja Hegde making a special cameo appearance.
